Holiday Classic – Cotula Cup Classic Fours Results

16 teams lined up to contest the Annual Sub Centre Cotula Cup Holiday Classic held at the Ashburton Bowling Club on Tues 27th and Wednesday 28th December 2022. Teams of 4players each competed in a medley of formats over the 2 days. Day 1 started with a round of Fours, then Singles & Triples and lastly a round of 2-4-2 pairs.

The weather was a little uncooperative for the start of play on day 1, but this did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the competitors. The bowls played were of an outstanding standard and very entertaining for spectators and players alike.

At the end of play on Day 1 the tournament leaders were the team of Ryan Bester, Rachel Davies, Dan Hopkins and Mike Quinn who won 4 of their 5 matches. 4 other teams also managed 4 out of 5 wins making for an interesting contest leading into day 2.

Day 2 dawned sunny and bright with the promise of a very hot afternoon for bowling. The greens were in immaculate condition and played beautifully. Day 2 competition commenced with a round of 3 bowl Pairs, followed by a round of singles & Triples and concluded with a last round of Fours.

Final Results:

1st: Ryan Bester, Rachel Davies, Dan Hopkins, and Mike Quinn – 8 wins, 1 draw, 64 ends and +82 differential

2nd: Graeme Bishop, Rosemary Bennett, Graeme Clarke and Rodney Greaney – 8 wins, 61 ends, +26 differential

3rd: Tony Inwood, Gus Hurrell, Russell Ward and Wayne McCarthy – 6 wins, 65 ends, +31 differential
